Atlanta's airport processes more passengers than any other in the world — year after year, consecutive decades. Most people who fly through Hartsfield-Jackson don't realize how many cities have direct service, or how aggressively airlines compete for those seats.
This guide covers every price tier from ATL: the under-$150 domestic routes where budget carriers compete hard, the $150–$300 weekend trips, and the international nonstops that skip the connection in New York or Chicago. With real price ranges and the booking windows that actually produce results.
- Status: World's busiest airport by passenger volume (consecutive record)
- Terminals: Domestic T, A, B, C, D, E · International F
- Primary hub: Delta Air Lines (~70% of gates and routes)
- Budget carriers at ATL: Southwest (C/D), Frontier (Terminal T), Allegiant, American
- Transit to city: MARTA Red/Gold line, $2.50 flat, 25 min to downtown
Under $150 Round Trip — Where Competition Is Fiercest
| Destination | Airport | Typical Sale Price | Best Carrier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nashville | BNA | $80–$130 | Southwest, Delta |
| Charlotte | CLT | $80–$140 | American, Delta |
| New Orleans | MSY | $100–$160 | Southwest, Delta |
| Fort Lauderdale | FLL | $90–$145 | Frontier, Delta |
| Tampa | TPA | $90–$150 | Frontier, Southwest |
| Baltimore/Washington | BWI | $90–$150 | Southwest |
| Washington DC | DCA | $100–$160 | Southwest, Delta, American |
| Orlando | MCO | $80–$145 | Frontier, Delta, Southwest |
Orlando is the most consistently cheap route from ATL. Frontier operates it heavily — fares hit $70–$100 RT multiple times per year during their sales. Add one carry-on to a $80 base fare and you're at $130–$150, which is still a good deal for a 1-hour flight.
Southwest caveat, and it matters: Southwest doesn't appear on Google Flights or any aggregator. For Nashville, New Orleans, Baltimore, and Washington DC, check southwest.com directly every time. They're frequently the cheapest carrier on these routes, and their Tuesday weekly sales go lower than most data shows.
$150–$250 Round Trip
| Destination | Airport | Typical Range | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York City | LGA / JFK / EWR | $150–$240 | EWR is usually cheapest; Delta dominates LGA |
| Boston | BOS | $130–$220 | JetBlue and Delta compete hard here |
| Chicago | ORD / MDW | $120–$200 | Southwest at Midway often wins |
| Denver | DEN | $150–$250 | Frontier prices this route aggressively |
| Dallas | DFW / DAL | $130–$210 | Southwest at Love Field; American at DFW |
| Phoenix | PHX | $160–$270 | Southwest, Delta |
| Houston | IAH / HOU | $130–$200 | United at IAH, Southwest at HOU |
| Kansas City | MCI | $140–$210 | Southwest |
Denver is one of the best value routes from ATL. Frontier has a major ATL–DEN presence and runs flash sales to $89–$99 RT several times per year. At that price, Denver — with mountain access in winter and summer hiking — is hard to beat.
New York is three airports. Delta owns LaGuardia (LGA). JetBlue and others compete at JFK. Newark (EWR) is typically $30–$60 cheaper than LGA for the same New York trip, served by AirTrain from Penn Station.

$250–$400 Round Trip
| Destination | Airport | Typical Range |
|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles | LAX | $220–$380 |
| Las Vegas | LAS | $200–$340 |
| Seattle | SEA | $240–$380 |
| San Francisco / Oakland | SFO / OAK | $230–$400 |
| Portland | PDX | $240–$380 |
Las Vegas surprises people. It's a 4-hour flight, not a Caribbean trip, but Frontier prices ATL–LAS aggressively and the route regularly goes below $180 RT during slow travel weeks. Combined with the fact that Vegas hotel rooms can go below $50/night on weekdays, it's a legitimate budget long weekend option.
LA is Delta's territory and priced accordingly — multiple daily departures, high demand, consistent pricing. The cheapest seats appear 2–3 months out, not last-minute.
International Nonstops From ATL
ATL's Terminal F handles international. Delta's hub status means direct service to all major regions that most airports can't match.
Caribbean & Mexico
| Destination | Airport | Price Range | Best Booking Window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cancún | CUN | $280–$500 | 2–3 months out; travel May–June or Sept |
| San Juan | SJU | $200–$400 | Counts as domestic (US territory) |
| Montego Bay | MBJ | $320–$500 | Dec–April peaks at $600+ — book early |
| Punta Cana | PUJ | $330–$520 | Fall shoulder season cheapest |
| Nassau | NAS | $290–$480 | Low season May–early December |
| Mexico City | MEX | $360–$550 | Fall and early January |
| Aruba | AUA | $380–$600 | May–June window |
Cancún is the best value international nonstop from ATL. Frontier competes with Delta, pushing fares down. Book in April–May for summer travel, or in August for October.
San Juan counts as domestic. Puerto Rico is a US territory, so ATL–SJU fares appear in domestic fare sales — the cheapest tickets go below $200 RT. No passport needed. It's the best-priced Caribbean trip from ATL for US citizens.
Europe (All Nonstop From ATL on Delta)
| Destination | Airport | Price Range | Off-Peak Sweet Spot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dublin | DUB | $520–$850 | Often cheapest Europe option from ATL |
| Lisbon | LIS | $540–$900 | Fall shoulder |
| Madrid | MAD | $560–$950 | Fall and early spring |
| Amsterdam | AMS | $580–$980 | September–October |
| Frankfurt | FRA | $580–$980 | Similar to Amsterdam |
| London | LHR | $550–$950 | February–March travel |
| Paris | CDG | $600–$1,050 | Book March–April for summer |
| Rome | FCO | $600–$1,050 | October beats July by $200+ |
| Tokyo | NRT | $750–$1,400 | 4–5 months out; Nov–Feb travel |
Dublin is the sleeper Europe deal from ATL. Consistently $50–$150 cheaper than London on comparable dates. Getting from Dublin to London is a 70-minute Ryanair flight for €20–€30. If your goal is the UK, routing through Dublin cuts meaningful money from a transatlantic fare.
Four Rules for Finding the Cheapest ATL Fare
1. Always check Southwest directly. For every route they serve, check southwest.com before concluding Google Flights has the cheapest price. They're not on aggregators — ever.
2. Frontier's sale cadence is predictable. Sales run roughly every 2–3 weeks for 48–72 hours. Their ATL routes (Orlando, Miami, Denver, Las Vegas, Cancún) drop well below normal price in these windows. Their email list is worth joining for the alerts alone.
3. Set fare alerts 10–15% below today's price. That threshold is achievable on most routes within a 60-day window. Google Flights fare alerts are free, send email, and work reliably. Don't set the alert at the price you'd be thrilled with — set it at a realistic 10–15% drop and wait.
4. Fly Tuesday or Wednesday. Friday and Sunday departures from ATL are 20–30% more expensive than midweek on the same route. ATL has an especially high business traveler concentration — business travelers fill Friday flights and push prices up. The savings on a $250 ticket add up.
