If you have been refreshing John Summit's tour page waiting for 2027 dates to drop, here is the short version: they are mostly not coming.
In September 2026 he said he plans to step back from the EDM festival circuit through 2027 to spend the year making club records. That is the whole story and it has been reported widely enough to settle the question people keep searching. He is not retiring, he has not said he will play nothing, and his own Experts Only brand is a separate matter. But the run of main-stage festival slots that defined the last few years is pausing.
This page covers what was actually announced, what is still on the calendar, and how to plan travel around a year that just got a lot thinner.
What was actually said
The September 2026 announcement was about production, not about quitting. The stated reason is studio time and a return to club records, which is where his name was built before the festival circuit took over.
Two things that announcement did not do:
- It did not confirm zero shows. He has not clarified whether the pullback includes club dates, and club shows are the format he specifically said he wants to make music for.
- It did not address Experts Only. His own festival brand sits outside the "playing someone else's festival" category, and nothing has been announced either way.
So the accurate framing for 2027 is: a gap year on the festival circuit, with the possibility of club dates and his own events, and a likely return afterward.
The 2027 dates that do exist
Wildlands Festival, Perth, Australia, January 2, 2027. As of October 2026 this is the clearest confirmed John Summit date on the 2027 calendar, and it sits right at the start of the year, before the hiatus really bites. Wildlands is an Australian New Year season festival, which means it falls in the Southern Hemisphere summer and draws a largely local crowd.
For a US reader this is a genuinely expensive trip. Perth is one of the most isolated major cities in the world and there is no short way to get there from North America. If you are considering it, the honest advice is to treat it as an Australia trip that happens to include a set, not a festival trip that happens to be in Australia.
Everything else is unconfirmed. Ignore aggregator sites listing speculative 2027 dates. A number of sites auto-generate "2027 tour" pages for any artist with search volume, and they are not sourced from the artist.
Experts Only Festival: the one to watch
Experts Only is John Summit's own festival brand, and the 2026 edition ran September 19 and 20, 2026 on Randall's Island in New York, produced with Medium Rare, Relentless Beats and EMW.
This is the event most likely to survive a festival hiatus, for the obvious reason that it is his. If you want one thing to watch in 2027, watch this rather than the big circuit festivals. Based on the 2026 build-out timing, announcements would most likely land in spring 2027.
Randall's Island is also one of the more manageable festival sites in New York: ferry and shuttle access from Manhattan, and real hotel inventory within a reasonable ride rather than the camping-or-nothing setup at destination festivals.
How to plan travel for a thin year
When an artist's schedule is scarce, the planning problem inverts. You are not picking between festivals, you are waiting for a date and then moving fast.
Set alerts instead of refreshing. Follow the artist's official channels, and set a Ticketmaster alert for his name. A club show in a major city sells out in a different way than a festival does: smaller rooms, faster sellouts, and resale that climbs immediately. If you miss the on-sale, TicketNetwork is the resale route, with the usual warning that resale on a scarce date runs well above face value.
Book accommodation before flights. For any festival, lodging near the venue is the constraint that bites first. Flights to major US cities stay reasonably flexible; the hotel block near the site does not.
Keep the flight flexible. Our guide to finding cheap flights covers fare alerts, and for a year where dates appear with little warning, a refundable or changeable fare is worth the small premium.
Las Vegas is the fallback plan. If your goal is a weekend of this kind of music rather than one specific artist, Las Vegas has the deepest concentration of residencies and club nights in the country, and flights there are cheap from most US cities year-round. It is the one destination where you can book travel first and decide on the show later.
What to bring
A festival day is a long day on your feet with no outlet access, so the kit is mostly about endurance:
- A portable charger. The single most useful item. A day of set times, video and rideshare will flatten a phone by early evening, and a dead phone means no ticket, no ride and no way to find your group.
- Earplugs. Not optional at the front of a main stage. Most regular attendees wear them, and the good ones cut volume without muffling the sound.
- Broken-in shoes. A festival day routinely clears 20,000 steps on gravel, grass or concrete.
- A universal adapter for anything international, Perth included.
- A meeting point agreed in advance. Cell service inside a packed festival ground is unreliable, and "we'll just text" fails exactly when it matters.
The honest bottom line
2027 is a bad year to plan a trip around seeing John Summit, and that is the useful answer rather than a disappointing one. If seeing him is the goal, watch for Experts Only news in spring and for one-off club dates, and otherwise plan on 2028.
If what you actually want is a festival weekend, the circuit is deep and 2027 lineups will be announced from late winter onward. Pick the festival first and the artist second, and the travel math gets much easier.
